World Figure Skating Championship

The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual event organized by the International Skating Union (ISU). It is considered the most prestigious of the ISU tournaments, and also includes the European, Four Continents, and Junior Championships.

At the championships, figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion in singles (men's and women's), pairs, and ice dancing. The tournament is usually held in March, and participants are nominated on a national basis. Each ISU member country may enter one competitor in singles and one pair in pairs. Depending on their previous success, countries are allowed to enter up to three competitors or pairs.

Since the 2010–2011 season, some skaters must qualify. This depends on their results at the previous championships. Countries may directly enter those who were in the top 18 (12 in pairs and 15 in ice dancing) at the previous championships. If everyone has taken high places, but there is a limit, then an additional participant can be admitted from other countries. The rest are subject to qualification.
