The Sleeping Beauty ice show, set to music by P.I. Tchaikovsky, is the highlight of the New Year's holidays for fans of figure skating and ballet. Directed by Evgeni Plushenko and Yana Rudkovskaya, the show brings together the world's finest figure skaters, the classical music of the great Russian composer, and spectacular multimedia sets that recreate a magical palace and fairytale land. According to Yana Rudkovskaya herself, this is world-class performance, certainly on par with the Bolshoi Theater.
The characters from Charles Perrault's classic libretto will come to life within the Live Arena. Stars of the Plushenko Angels Academy and world figure skating champions will star. Anna Shcherbakova, Olympic, World, and European champion, will appear as the Lilac Fairy—the embodiment of goodness and light. Alena Kostornaia will play the Fairy Carabosse, whose spell of eternal sleep plunges Princess Aurora and all the castle's inhabitants into a deep sleep. Evgeni Plushenko and Evgenia Medvedeva will play the King and Queen.
Princess Aurora will be played by Elena Kostyleva, a two-time reigning Russian Junior Champion who has already established herself as one of the brightest young talents on the country's ice stages. The role of Prince Désiré will go to Alexander Plushenko. The show features Makar Ignatov and stars of the Angels of Plushenko Academy. The leading roles are played by some of the world's best figure skaters. The choreography is by Nikita Mikhailov, and the ballet is directed by Sergei Filin.
